Durham Architects has a long and storied history in southeast New Mexico. In 1951, Kern Smith started an architectural firm in Carlsbad. Beryl Durham joined the firm in 1956; became a partner in 1966; and the firm became known as Kern Smith Durham & Associates. Kern Smith retired in 1983 and Beryl founded Beryl Durham & Associates, P.A. in January of 1984. After Beryl’s death in 2006, the firm was reorganized as Durham & Associates Architects, Inc. Frank Mackay joined the firm becoming the Architect in Responsible Charge in the Summer of 2013; Two years later the firm became Durham Mackay Architects Inc. in June of 2015.
